Gramps' Farm

Saturday, we made our first family trip out to Gramps' farm (not to be confused with Grant's Farm- which happens a lot when you hear Mitchell talk about it). Gramps bought the farm about a year ago, I think, and has been rehabbing the house and planting an orchard. On this day, his neighbors were having a little BBQ, so we made the trek out for some small town fun.

As soon as we go there, Mitchell fed the goats some bread. He thought that was pretty funny. The goats belong to Gramps' neighbor. They raise goats and bees. The bees will be very good for Gramps' orchard.

Then, Mr. Rosenthal let Mitchell get in with the goats. They were looking for some more bread! One was getting pretty close and Mitchell kept trying to wave her away. The goat seemed to think that was a game!

As I was snapping pictures, one goat decided he needed to check out what I had. Was it more bread? I must say, he startled me as I saw him through the lens, but I was quick to snap the picture!
Next, we took a ride in the golf cart to see the farm. First stop was the apple trees where Mitchell helped to pick some of the apples off. The trees are only in their second year, so we don't want them to bear fruit yet...maybe next year. Allen thought the golf cart was pretty cool. He couldn't be bothered with the flowers or trees- he wanted to climb all around the cart.

After a tour of the house, Mitchell could hardly wait to get down to the pond to go fishing. The pond is loaded with bluegill and catfish. Gramps promised a quick catch, which is good since preschoolers don't have much of an attention span!

And Gramps was right. Here's Mitchell with his second bluegill! He loved it. We didn't catch any catfish this time though.

Allen was a good sport waiting for fishing to be over. He wanted to walk all around, but near the pond it wasn't a good idea (and I didn't feel like going fishing for a baby).

Once we got back up to the BBQ site, Allen was trilled to have more free reign of the area. He was quick to discover the dirt and rocks and that he could bang them on the metal barn doors. Mitchell helped the Rosenthals feed the goats their real dinner and watched them for what seemed like an eternity.

After filling our bellies with good food, we drove back home. Mitchell was hyper from such a fun time and Allen passed out as soon as we hit the blacktop. We are looking forward to Gramps' house being done so we can spend some more time there!

Looks like you guys had a great time. The boys are getting so big and it is funny how much Allen is looking like Mitchell!
